Currituck Maple Skatepark
Grand Opening 5/06

The grand opening at the Maple Skatepark was this past Sat the 20th! The weather was just perfect, the crowd of around 200 were stoked all day. The session never got to crazy with around a hundred skaters skating the street setup in the parking lot and taking time out to come ride the bowl with quite a few locals. They started with a ribbon cutting and an announcement that the park will never be moving, contrary to what you here on the radio and news, and that phase II will happen in 2008, bring it on. Then the session started and carried on into the late afternoon.

When I get a complete list of sponsors, I will update. I will thank a few people, I'd like to thank Jason Forrest who is the rep for NHS, Independent, and Creature , thanks for setting up your tent and providing the tunes all day and free videos. Also the guys from Savage, The BoardRoom out of EC with the AC skate shop on wheels, and Twisted Tree Skateboards of EC for donating boards. There was another shop from the VA area, names soon and myself (ECA) I guess for kicking in a couple of boards and tshirts. Thanks you Shane Thomas for the MC heckle all day, great job as usual. Another big thanks goes out to the Oneal's not only did Big Ron, Ronnie, and Dylan hold it down in the bowls all day, Lisa and her little ladies kept the Raffle going all day and raised $400 bucks for finishing off the decks and getting the hill stabilized with vegetation to keep the sand out of the bowls. A real big thanks goes out to Jason Weeks from Currituck Park and Rec, everything was real easing going all day and everything went smooth as the crete in the keyhole. You can thank him for the "FREE" concrete skatepark we have in this area of NC, he was very pivotal in making sure we got the best park possible out there and he stands behind making it even better in 2008.

Thanks to everyone who donated product and participated even if it was just watching. It was a great day for skateboarding in NC!!! Lets do it again next year!

All the pics below were shot by me (Rob Nelson) except gor the very last two. Look for more updates listed on my home page as they come in.
